Are Open Floor Plans Still Ideal?

polkadotchair.com

Everyone wants an open floor plan right? While they certainly are not going away, people have started to realize the perks of some spaces being separate.

As with many things, the idea of a semi-open floor plan has gained popularity amid the pandemic. With everyone staying at home instead of going out, people have begun to realize there is nowhere to escape the chaos of life at home in an open floor plan house. Everyone needs some space now and then, so having a space where you can close yourself off from the rest of the house, whether it be for work, school, or just some peace and quiet, has become essential.

So what’s the solution? A great solution is a semi-open floor plan. With a semi-open floor plan, the main spaces can still be open to each other. For example, the kitchen and living room are open to each other but some secondary spaces can be closed off like a study or playroom. A great way to do this while still feeling as open as possible is to incorporate French or sliding doors that can be open to the rest of the living space but can also be closed when you want to close yourself off from the rest of the house.
