How to Stress Less This Christmas

December 21, 2017  |  atmosphere, christmas, cozy, relax, winter

As Christmas edges in closer and closer, it's pretty evident how stressed out the general public can be this time of year. Traffic is heavier, stores are overcrowded with lines out the door, grocery stores are low on stock because everyone is trying to make the best Christmas meal for their families, and everyone is in a rush. This time of year can be a crazy time for many people. Here at Amy Youngblood Interiors, we came up with a few ways you can stress less in your home this Christmas!

Aromatherapy: Light some scented candles (which also sets a calm mood), diffuse a calming essential oil like lavender or vanilla, or buy some fresh flowers. Lavender has been proven to calm nerves and melt stress away while vanilla just smells yummy.

Candles: While it was already mentioned under aromatherapy, candles definitely help create a relaxing atmosphere. Dim your general lighting down and light a few candles around the room instead. Removing the harsh glare lamps and overhead fixtures will help set your mind at ease.

Turn off the television: TVs can be a source of anxiety for some, depending on what it is that you're watching. Whether it be the news, an action movie or thriller, the TV can definitely trigger some stressful emotions. Instead, try turning on some soothing music. Or, just enjoy the silence and curl up with a good book.

Speaking of good books, read: When was the last time you found time to read a good book? Honestly, give it a try. Go to the store, find a book that seems interesting to you, and dedicate some time each night to read a bit before bed.

Layer with textiles: Get cozy! It's definitely been a cold month so far, so take advantage of the excuse to get wrapped up in warm blankets. Layer throw blankets on your sofa and your bed to allow yourself to really get comfortable and relax.

Hopefully some of these ideas will allow you to find some peace during the stress of the holidays!
