Simple Ways to Bring the Outdoors In

Humans have a natural biological connection with nature. Crackling fires captivate us and a garden view can enhance our creativity. Strolling through the park can have a restorative, healing effect. With the fall season upon us and the weather turning cooler, it is inevitable we will start spending more time indoors. Because the human-nature connection plays such a vital role in overall health and well-being, it is important to bring outdoor elements inside with us. As we begin the season of getting cozy at home, turn to nature for interior design inspiration.

Bringing the outdoors in can be as simple as adding fresh flowers to a side table or gathering branch clippings to drop into a large vase. These options provide a quick and inexpensive way to add a pop of color or a focal point to any space in your home.

Taking it a step further, look into integrating natural materials and textures such as wicker, rattan, hemp, and jute into your interior.  Furniture, rugs, and wall coverings can all be found in these natural products and integrating one of these textures to your space will provide warmth and bring the organic feel in from the outside.

Additionally, many artists and furniture/textile designers turn to nature for inspiration. Fun patterns, shapes, and colors have been created for artwork, upholstery, and window coverings that nod to elements found in nature.  Whether it be a large scale botanical, a bold floral, a plant based motif, or bird/animal prints, adding these textiles or artwork to your space will bring another touch of mother nature into your home.
